About me
"Pass Andrea was born in 1979 in Győr. She graduated from the Kazinczy Ferenc Secondary School in Győr in 1998. Initially preparing for a musical career as a flutist, her broader interest in the arts led her towards theatre, and she eventually earned her degree in Theatre History from the University of Veszprém in 2004. She studied on scholarships in London and Nancy, completed the screenwriting course at the Central European University, and later participated in drama pedagogy training led by László Kaposi as well as a directing program in children’s theatre.
In 2012, she wrote her first original play (Rock, Paper, Scissors), and since then—except for rare occasions (e.g. Béla Tarr’s Family Nest)—she has both written and directed her own productions. Pass Andrea primarily works in the field of independent theatre, having been for a short time one of the directors of the Narratíva Collective, and currently as the founder of the DanteCasino company, where she and her collaborators create theatre projects mainly for young audiences. She has also directed productions at several repertory theatres, including Vígszínház, the Csokonai Theatre in Debrecen, the National Theatre of Subotica, and the Vaskakas Puppet Theatre in Győr, where she has been a member of the Artistic Council since 2022. Her productions are regularly presented at various theatre festivals and have won numerous prestigious awards. In 2019, she was the guest of honor at DESZKA, the national festival of contemporary Hungarian drama held in Debrecen.

Over the past ten years, Andrea Pass has been awarded the István Örkény Playwright Scholarship three times and has also won the STAFÉTA, Budapest competition for young talents on three occasions. She is currently a scholarship holder of the Hungarian Academy of Arts, writing radio plays for children. Her dramas have been published in several volumes by Selinunte Publishing, and many of her works have been translated into foreign languages. Sunflower has been staged in New York and Sfântu Gheorghe, while Vanishing Stimuli has been performed for international audiences in Istanbul. Two cross-border theatres, the National Theatre of Subotica and the National Theatre of Târgu Mureș, have also launched their theatre-in-education programs using Andrea Pass’s plays.”
